Day 11

In quite an isolated farming community now and set up my tent on the fields outside Dennis Cleland's farm on the road into Bucryus. Next morning his wife gave me a bag of goodies and a packed lunch which is great ... people's hospitality is overwhelming and just making this journey so much easier. The first 30 miles are behind me now and as the temperature begins to get up into the mid 80sF I have to quit for a little while. Now in McDonald's, in upper Sandusky ... the road leading westward is quite flat, with a good surface, wide shoulder and not much traffic ... I should be satisfied but it's a bit monotonous! Every farmstead seems to fly the stars and stripes with pride and some of the holdings are very well maintained ... I think we could learn a lot from these folk. Oooh! It's very hot ... see a sign that says 86F ... not too humid and there's a bit of a breeze, but not much. Watched a couple of combined harvesters for an hour ... the fields are hugh, maybe a mile square and produce Hugh sounds of food. Roads very quiet with not much activity and just the occasional farm building by the side of the road. probably need to ask permission to put up a tent ... think I'll call it quits in an hour ... I will have completed my quota of 60miles for the day... it's just too warm to push on much further. Like some of the farmers, I'm looking for rain! Passing through the town of Ada having clocked 62.8miles ... I can see some trees over behind the playing fields beside the school. It's a bit public but the grass is nice and short ... think I'll call it a day ... I'm tired.
