Day 2

Another early start and got on the road. The surface is good and for most of the way a safe shoulder. Can't tell you much about the scenery ... too many trees ... the road twists and turn and quite a few hills too. Got to the Delaware Gap and through to the town of Stroudburg ... the veterans are out parading and the bands at in full flow. Very warm and humid so I'll hang around till it cools down before finishing off the last 20 miles. Don't feel like eating but could drink Lough Erne dry! Meeting some nice people especially the guy who chastised me for cycling over the Delaware Gap toll bridge. It's meant for vehicle traffic only! ... I pretended to be stupid? ... and he didn't charge me.

The terrain around here is very woody and there are hills ... lots of hills ... I'm making good use of my granny gear but it slows me down a lot. Spent 7 hours in the saddle yesterday but with the hills and the heat only covered 58 miles. Not particularly worried ... I'm nursing myself and drinking plenty of water ... there are plenty of gas stations that let fill up from the office water coolers. I wanted to set up camp early and found a lovely open glade off the main road ... unfortunately there was no network access and was unable to checkin with anyone. During the night there was a thunderstorm and heavy rain ... it wasn't nice putting on a wet T-shirt that I had left outside to air. Slowly getting into the swing of things ... still feels like a foreign country and I'm getting some strange looks. Oh! .. the highlight today was seeing a big hawk swoop low over my head and catch a grey squirrel running across the road ahead of me ... I wobbled a bit as I heard the 'swoosh' ... life can be cruel too.
