Day 8
I have completed 35 miles this morning and think that's the hills of Pennsylvania behind me. Crossing the border now (14:00 EST) and have the photograph to prove it. T-mobile coverage is a bit patchy and I'm still having difficulty uploading pics. It's easier when I get onto Wifi. People say Ohio is flat but we'll see! It's getting warm so I'll get under some shade and have a break ... no aches nor pains and bike is going well too.
Very impressed with some of the homes that I pass with acres of lawns ... lots of sit on lawn lowers ... the whole area oozes wealth more so the numerous churches of all creeds and denominations that seem to be everywhere. Coming through Youngstown is not so nice though ... for a while I was in a very rough neighbourhood and felt uncomfortable ... it has a bad reputation and I was glad to get through it. I'm now on route 224 and it is straight and fairly level for the next phase of the trip. The open flat countryside might mean more wind and maybe a bit of boredom! Got sunburnt ... stupid move at this stage so I'll do something about it later. Temperature today got up to 92F in the afternoon ... I didn't cycle in that, but waited until it cooled a bit. 63 miles completed today without too much effort ... eating better too ... got a foot long sandwich out of Subway with all the trimmings ... it's enough for me at the moment and great value. Pitched my tent behind the ornamental gates and wall of a big ranch ... tucked nicely behind a couple of conifer trees ... Goodnight.
