Day 16
Awakened 05:30 but lay on for an extra while ... Oh! it's hard to get started in the morning. It was a clear night and got cool ... I see a heavy dew lying around. Last night the sky was clear with a nice crescent moon .... the familiar 'Plough' and 'Polaris' lay a bit lower in the sky but I felt at home. Also saw a few satellites and aircraft as well a numerous fireworks in the not too distant horizon. But the best show of the night were the fireflies ... they danced and glowed back and forth in hundreds across a big wheat field... so bright and electrifying ... I just love watching them.
Changed into fresh socks and underpants. The first few miles in the morning are always a bit of a struggle ... think I'll get to Chatworth for breakfast ... that will make a difference. Clear blue sky, a little headwind ... looks like it's going to get very warm later.
Now in Chenoa, 30 miles on the clock and the temperature is 86F ... time to stay indoors until it cools down. The AC in some places is on full and after a while I'm freezing! Outside at the moment having a dose under the shade of a tree ... just doing a bit of people watching.
(NOTE: Many people are sending me very encouraging comments. If you want to view them CLICK the daily blog title. eg Day 16 ... the technology is working well. I'll put up another YouTube video when I get somewhere more scenic.)
Coming into the town of El Paso, Il ... now, there's a good cowboy name for you.
As you approach a town it's always the same ... first you see distant cell towers, maybe 8 miles away ... then as you get closer you can discern the big onion water storage towers ... then a few trees and maybe industrial plants and finally the crossroad signs and traffic lights are seen. You have the usual display of advertisements and the traffic increases. Very few people to be seen walking around ... pity, because they are a quick way of getting local info. Almost completed 1000 mile of cycling in the states. Think I'll limit myself to 60+ miles today ... that's enough ... the heat has taken it's toll though it's cooled down now. Battery is getting low too!
Last town of the evening, Eureka (pop 4500) ... Ronald Regan went to college here.
I've been told there's a golf course a few miles west ... that's where I'll set down. Distance today 62mile.

You're making great progress. Seeing lots of the country too. I suspect you'll be looking for some swimming holes along the way - that would have to be a refreshing treat. Thanks for keeping all of us informed - Your updates are great!
