Day 25

Need a new rear tyre so wasn't in too much of a hurry to get started. On the road by 07:00, into Lincoln, breakfast at McDonald's and now heading into the city centre for a bike shop. It looks modern, clean with wide streets. I've washed, shaved and put on a clean T- shirt for the occasion! The east-west streets here are labelled A, B, C, D .... etc ... neat eh? Found a great bike shop on R street and N27th street. They were more than helpful ... got a tyre that's good enough (I hope) and they fitted it for free. Now I'm 'rock & rolling'! I'll spend a good bit of the day here in Lincoln and get out of town later. So far so good. I didn't realise that Lincoln is the state capital of Nebraska ... and they have a magnificent State Building with a Hugh bronze farmer sowing seed at the top.

It's a massive stone building and I managed to get inside with my bike ... the security guys bent the rules and looked after my bike while I got a mini conducted tour of the building. Got up to the free observation platform and had a great view all around. It's getting very warm now ... 96F ... and I want to push on ... Seward is the next town on the agenda ... I believe it's a good road, hilly but with a clean hard shoulder. I'll go slow and drink plenty of water ... this is practise for later when I hit the desert. The amount of food that's grown out here is immeasurable ... sweetcorn in all directions as far as the eye can see. Coming into Seward meet up with Gus Miller and Jim Ited(?) ... recreational cyclists out for a burnup! They show me the library and a good place for something to eat. Have another 20 miles to do but I'll wait 'til it cools down a bit and I'll make sure to pick a stealthy spot tonight!! Finished the day a few miles beyond the town of Waco ... 63 miles clocked up and that will do me. Tired ... the heat saps your energy and I didn't sleep all that well last night, nor did i have a siesta today, so hoping for an incident free stop over here and we'll continue in the morning. Another good day!
