Scenery is different now ... cycling down this broad twisting valley along with the Colorado River, a railway track, a twin Interstate highway and a quiet frontage road (H6), which presumably was here before the interstate was constructed. Not many houses around ... but lots of industrial units out on their own with big compressors and tanks ... not sure if it's to get oil or process water or what?

Lovely road down to the town of Parachute. Always impressed by the local public libraries ... modern, spacious buildings ... well stocked with books, journals and computers ... and they have very comfortable reading areas with big sofas and armchairs ... and they're air conditioned. The serious part of the journey is now waiting for me ... I need to plan my overnight stops carefully, carry as much water as I can and be careful not to get caught out in the scorching Sun at the wrong time of day. Surely I'll reach Grand Junction this evening ... and I might consider a rest day? Hope my good fortune continues. Tried my hand at a couple of YouTube videos: Heading west to Grand Junction and this one of the gorge coming down into Grand Junction: Passing down through a gorge on road to Grand Junction Before getting onto Interstate 70, I was quite happy to be on the frontage road of highway 6 ... but without warning the road comes to a dead end. What are you supposed to do now? Well .... my understanding of the rules is that you ARE allowed on an Interstate if no other route is available ... OK! Trouble is that I now have to climb over a three strand barbed wire fence, with my bike and stuff, to get onto the I70 ... they don't make it easy, do they?

How's that for a Mesa? First one that I've seen ... looking forward to many more. Scenery is just magnificent and changes as I move along. Weather is hot but very dry and I'm coping ... Just! Didn't realise just how big Grand Junction is ... it's a proper city. The notion has come over me to stay in a cheap motel tonight. I would like a good shower and I've a few things to wash too. The odometer tells me that I've covered 2285.5 miles including today's jaunt of 65miles. Not bad considering the temperature was up at 95F. Nipping across the road to Walgreen Supermarket for a few bits and pieces. Catch you all tomorrow. Goodnight.

Hi Declan,
I tell you ... Mr Hannigan would need some pretty long ropes if you want to do any rock climbing around here!
The heats a killer too ... you can't even sit down on a rock without burning yourself. Cheers
