Counting Down :
Departing Cushendall on Wednesday 15th June, 2011 flying to Newark, New York city.
Will stay with Calum, Hilary and Archie for a few days to complete preparations to my bicycle and camping equipment.
Plan to leave New York City early on Monday, 20th June and cycle to Los Angeles ... taking about 65 days to complete the adventure. I'll upload daily Internet blogs, uplink stuff to Facebook and keep a written diary of the trip.
Must reach LA before 6th September to catch a flight back to NY and then get home to Ireland a few days later.
Promised Kirsty I'll be back in Cushendall before 16th September.

Didn't get out on the bike yesterday .... aagh! This is not the way to do things!! Now in the process of partially dismantling the bicycle, cleaning and packing the parts into two large cardboard boxes. I better not forget anything.
Will add plenty of padding to protect the bits and pieces and trust that the airport security folk don't want me to pull everything out for inspection. Hoping too that the Belfast airport handlers know how to take a bit of care with my stuff .... please? I'll try and have a special word with them though the real worry is with the baggage handlers over in Newark, NYC.
Training will now be reduced to daily 7 mile power walks ... but nothing beats time in the saddle. Ooooh, I'm going to pay for this later!!
Maurita helped me get special insurance for the trip. Not much fun forking out money on an item that I hope will not be needed ... but I suppose that's what you have to do nowadays?
